What is Connectify?
Connectify is a free and easy to use software router for Windows 7 computers. With Connectify, users can wirelessly share any Internet connection: a cable modem, a cellular card, or even another Wi-Fi network. Other Wi-Fi enabled devices including laptops, smart phones, music players, and gaming systems can see and join your Connectify hotspot just like any other Wi-Fi access point and are kept safe and secure by password-protected WPA2 Encryption.

At Home
Connectify can easily act as a repeater for your home router, extending its range and providing Internet access wherever you need it. Connect to your home network, enter the same Wi-Fi name and password, and hit "Start Hotspot." Devices will automatically connect to the Internet through either your Connectify hotspot or home router depending on proximity. Before you know it you can finally have Internet access in that impossible back room or basement. In addition, if you run Connectify away from home with these settings, any devices that need to be bound to a specific network (such as Eye-Fi cards or wireless printers) will work flawlessly with no additional configuration no matter where you are!
On the Road
Connectify placed second in Lifehacker's Top 10 Downloads for a Road Warrior Laptop and it's not hard to see why. For the Road Warrior, Internet connectivity is a lifeline. Airports, Hotels, and Coffee Shops know this and charge accordingly, often as much as $10-$15 per day, per connection! These fees can quickly add up when traveling with friends or co-workers. The handful of hotels that do provide free Internet access occasionally only supply you with an ethernet jack, which leaves Wi-Fi only devices and smart phones in the dark. Even the lucky few that have mobile 3G cards or adapters are limited to a single connection. The Birth of Connectify
The Connectify team has been working for several years building self organizing wireless networks for mission-critical applications. The software we developed for our customers allows their computers to automatically cooperate, sharing wireless connections to outside networks, and acting as repeaters for each other. In short, if any of their computers can make it to the Internet, we guarantee that all of them can.
Early in 2009 we travelled to an Army base and demonstrated that you could drive a full-sized Humvee from miles away using our wireless network. It was a fantastic demonstration, but we spent the day passing USB thumb drives back and forth to transfer files because only one of us had a 3G card to connect to Internet. After a hard day's work, we returned to the hotel to find that they not only wanted to charge each one of us to get on the Wi-Fi, but for each device as well.
After this trip, we briefly decided to carry our own router, but that didn't last long. None of us wanted to be stuck carrying another brick-like device and power cord, and when we had to, we needed another power outlet. We were lucky to find even one when travelling, and if the network we were trying to join was a Wi-Fi one it wouldn't work anyway! No, the last thing we needed was another router in our lives.
Our frustration with the state of wireless networking finally boiled over, and Connectify was born in a marathon of late night software development. We didn't want more routers, we just wanted to connect to each other, share Internet connections, and get our devices online, without paying a fortune or carrying more hardware in our already overstuffed computer bags.
We wanted a wireless personal area network. My network, available wherever I decide to go, to share with anyone or any device I choose.
The Connectify team is dedicated to bringing real wireless sharing to everyone, and hopefully saving people a lot of money on their wireless Internet bills at the same time.
